The cereal is made from whole grain wheat and is known for its distinctive biscuit-like shape. The ingredients are simple, primarily consisting of 95% whole grain wheat along with malted barley extract, sugar, and salt.

The cereal is produced by the Weetabix Food Company, which was founded by Bennison Osborne and Malcolm MacFarlane. The company has its headquarters in Burton Latimer, Kettering, Northamptonshire, England. Weetabix quickly became popular in the British market due to its health benefits, convenience, and versatility.

Weetabix Food Company has expanded its product line over the years to include various versions, such as Weetabix Minis, Weetabix Protein, and Weetabix Organic. The company also produces other branded cereals like Alpen and Ready Brek.

In 2012, Weetabix was acquired by the Chinese company Bright Food. This acquisition was a part of Bright Food's strategy to increase its footprint in the global food market. In 2017, the cereal company was sold again, this time to Post Holdings, an American consumer packaged goods holding company.

Weetabix is manufactured using a specific process where whole grain wheat is cooked, shredded, and formed into biscuits before being baked. This retains the nutritional benefits of the whole grain.
